I thought I would show you some photos taken around town. Here is Mt Rainier on a nice clear and dry day. Not so bad is it? I can see this from the balcony of my apartment although this picture was taken from a different spot.
Just a couple of blocks from my apartment is the beach. There is a fishing pier, gravel beach, a small park and benches. You can see the Cascade Mountains across the Sound. There are usually families beach combing with the kids for starfish and shells, or the kids will just be playing in the water. You can walk way out on the pier and be surrounded by the water below.
There are many little shops along the main drag and the city hints that in the past it was a summer recreation community. Well it still is really. There was a church camp located where the park is now and the buildings are used by the city as rental venues. Here are a few of the shop signs all about the town.
I love the sign-the Des Moines Doghouse with a little daschund on it. Neon is still popular for signs here, or maybe popular again. Check out the red and green M & M’s on the deck. What they have to do with hot dogs I don’t know.
More neon. I love this sign for some reason.
Balloons and cupcakes.
There is a great clock on the right side of the building as well as a great sign.
Not a shop sign but one of the many public sculptures around here. Very funny don’t you think? The bottom of his shoe has a tick-tack-toe on it. I wonder how many people stop to appreciate this sculpture and the others around here?
Just a little tour around the town. Hope you enjoyed it.
