Are you feeding your creative self? Do you believe that creativity is an essential part of your life? Do you give yourself permission to create without guilt?

I believe I am worth the time it takes to create
whatever I feel called to create.
I believe that my work is worthy of its own space,
which is worthy of the name Sacred.
I believe that when I enter this space,
I have the right to work in silence, uninterrupted,
for as long as I choose.
I believe that the moment I open myself to the gifts of the muse,
I open myself to the Source of All Creation
And become One with the Mother of Life Itself.
I believe that my work is joyful, useful and constantly changing,
Flowing through me like a river with no beginning and no end.
I believe that what it is I am called to do will make itself known
when I have made myself ready.
I believe that the time I spend creating my art is as precious
as the time I spend giving to others.
I believe that what truly matters in the making of art
is not what the final piece looks like or sounds like,
not what it is worth or not worth,
but what newness gets added to the universe
in the process of the piece itself becoming.
I believe that I am not alone in my attempts to create,
and that once I begin the work, settle into the strangeness,
the words will take shape, the form find life, and the spirit take fight.
I believe that the Muse gives to me, so does she deserve from me:
faith, mindfulness and enduring commitment.

I am the one who loves myself just as I am

I may be a little quirky but that’s just me

I am the one who loves to surprise

I am the one with many layers

I don’t show them all at once and

I don’t show them all to everyone

Are you one of the lucky ones

I am the one who knows how to have fun

Come along

Do you know how to have fun? Do you accept yourself for who you are? Do you do more than accept yourself? Do you love the way you are?

It isn’t always an easy thing to do. Some of us know instinctively how to do it. Some may take years. And still others never reach that place.

No, that’s not a picture of me. It’s not about the outside, but the inside. Isn’t she someone you would love to spend time with?

Come along.

Yesterday I made a foray down to Portland, Oregon to participate in a SoulCollage workshop. But that is not the only thing I did. I made a full day of it.

First I decided to surprise a former flute student of mine, my favorite student really. I walked into her shop and she had her back to me. I announced, Christine your old flute teacher is here to see you. She jumped and gave a little scream. We hadn’t seen each other in many years and she is no middle school girl anymore. We had a nice chat in between customers and then I had to get on my way. If you are ever in Portland be sure to visit Living Threads Vintage. She only caries the finest merchandise for both men and women as well as jewelry and decorative items. Tell her Diane sent you.

You can find Living Threads Vintage at 1008 SW Taylor St. Portland, OR 97205 And you might want to visit her blog at www.redhedgingerbread.blogspot.com

The afternoon was filled with new friends and collaging. We spent 3 hours in a lovely woodland setting sharing the experience, creating with paper and glue. Here are 3 cards I made. I haven’t interviewed them yet. Do they speak to you?

On the way home I made a quick side trip to a Tulip Festival. It was getting dark so I only had a short time to enjoy the Wonderful World of Color as Walt Disney would have said. The show garden had rows of single varieties while a field across the street was a riot of yellows, reds, purple and pinks. (Sorry that photos is a bit blurry as a gust of wind came up.) All in all a nice finish to a full day.

I am the one on a journey of self discovery through uncharted waters.

I am the one who travels under my own power, unaccompanied and without the baggage of the past.

I am the one who leaves the safe harbor behind with only my dreams to guide me.

I haven’t posted in a very long time. These past few months have been a time of decision and coming to grips with the many changes that are about to happen.

I am about to embark on a journey, a change of life, without a net. These are changes that have been a long time coming and were well considered. But that hasn’t made them any easier.

It seems that when I delayed making the decisions, the Universe would step in and give a nudge.  At first those nudges were gentle, then more insistent.  And finally they resembled a good swift kick in the butt.

But now the decisions are all made. I only wait for nature to calm down to make that cross country drive safer. I trust in the Universe to guide my dreams into reality.

Balanced on the Precipice of Delight

small schoodic

solid, concrete, unyielding
You can hardly imagine something less itinerant
Speckled pink and gray, black and white
It sparkles in the hot summer sun
Kissed by the surging ocean,
shaped by the energy of wind, water and earth
Hard ridges, sharp and jagged like puzzle pieces gone astray
Smooth curves, soft to the touch warm your back

Moving slowly toward the sea each season, ever changing
unnoticed unless your memory holds the picture
Imperceptible motion
Then it drops
Drops suddenly from its home,
becoming mobile for a moment or two
Free from its bondage it rests
Learning its new place in the world
Finding its balance

Sit barefoot on the edge
Feel the energy dance within
Get up and join the dance
I am calm, I am connected
Recognize the future
The ocean sings to me
The clouds wave as they pass in the searing blue sky
You come too

I move towards my destiny
The journey appears slow as granite
And then the drop
Drop into the sea of infinity,
Where all are one and time and space have no meaning
Find my place
I am balanced on the precipice of delight

particles23Something amazing happened last week in Britain that affected the whole world. When a middle aged woman, somewhat less than stylish, walked out on stage of the tv reality show Britain’s Got Talent people expected the worst. But when she opened her mouth to sing the touching number from the Broadway show Les Miserables everyone was stunned at what they heard.

This was someone with more than a beautiful voice. More than someone who was comfortable in her own skin. This was someone who could reach into your center, grab your heart and touch the most basic part of your soul. She didn’t let go untill the end and even then people felt the impact long afterwards. Their heart and soul was open as it seldom, if ever, had been open before. There was weeping, smiling, giggling and amazement. A week later people are still talking.

Susan Boyle is a 47 year old woman who devoted her adult life to caring for her mother. She was ridiculed as a youngster for her learning disability. When asked why she selected this particular song she replied that it summed up how she was feeling about her life. She dreamt of becoming a professional singer but life had killed her dream.

Well Susan you were wrong. Your dream is still very alive and we are all part of it. May you continue to touch the souls and open the hearts of your audience. We need you to help us realize this part of us that we no longer recognize. The world is a song and the song is exciting.

I Dreamed A Dream (excerpt)
There was a time when men were kind,
And their voices were soft,
And their words inviting.
There was a time when love was blind,
And the world was a song,
And the song was exciting.
There was a time when it all went wrong…
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I’m living,
So different now from what it seemed…
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed…
