This was originally posted on March 9, 2010 as I started my trip across the United States. As this is the year anniversary, I thought I would repost my travels. It has been an interesting year with lots of lessons and experiences.

A new adventure begins today. I am on the move to the west coast. The car is packed, the gps is programmed, plenty of music and podcasts are loaded on my ipod. After a teary goodbye to my friends, I’m ready to go.

Monday is truck day so I have plenty of company on the expressway. But traffic is moving along nicely. The Canadian geese are on their own higway flying north. However the funniest sight I saw all day (unfortunately I couldn’t get a photo) was a big truck-dump truck size-filled with pancakes.

At first I couldn’t figure out what they were but as I pulled up I could see there were hundreds and hundreds of pancakes in the bed of the truck. WTF! Pancakes! Where in the world was he going with a truck load of pancakes. Mind you now they were not pancakes in boxes. These were just pancakes, bare pancakes stacked up. Not a bottle of maple syrup in sight. Maybe he had a pig farm and the little oinkers were going to have a treat. Bacon and pancakes. Ha!

Another question. Who made all those pancakes and why? Why so many pancakes that they would be left over for someone to haul away? I guess I will never know. What do you think?

Tomorrow is another adventure.

castle2I love to travel. Do you? I have been travelling since I was two years old and haven’t stopped yet. Copy this, change the answers to your own, then post it to your blog. Let me know when you do. A link back to this blog would be appreciated.

How old were you when you first travelled?
I was 2 years old when I crossed the pond to visit my Mother’s family in England and Wales. In those days it was more cost effective to travel by ocean liner than to fly. We crossed the Atlantic on the Cunard Queen Elizabeth. It was the first and last time I ever suffered from sea sickness.

What is your favorite form of travelling: car, bus, train, or plane?
I love to travel by train. I love the sound, the feeling, meeting people, seeing the countryside, everything about it.

Where did you go on your first road trip?
I believe the first road trip I took was with my family from New York to Wisconsin. We went to Niagra Falls, the first of many trips there.

Where did you go on your first bus ride?
Other than bus trips around town (before bus trips there were trolly trips) the first long distance bus trip was to Canada with my high school band. We went to a festival in Winnepeg, a very long ride. In the hotel where we stayed there were 2 guys down the hall (not high school musicians mind you) who left their door open and they had prostitutes in there. It was quite a scandal.

Where did you go on your first train ride?
My first train ride was from London to Wales on a steam train. Hear that lonesome whistle blow and close the windows when you go through the tunnel.

Where did you go on your first plane ride?
I think it was when I was 8. From New York to Wisconsin, the last leg of a journey from Britain to home.

Motion sickness? Treatment of choice?
I don’t really have a problem with motion sickness thank goodness. But always have some ginger around just in case.

Where would you like to go that you haven’t been?
Kenya-wildlife safari, Egypt, India, Japan, Galapagos etc. on to infinitycompass1

Where would you like to return?
Mexico, Wales

Traveling alone or with someone?
With one someone special. You need someone to share the experience.

Your ultimate traveling dream?
Outer space, the sky’s the limit.

The idea for this travel meme came from Big Girl Blue
